Open My Heart – A Call to Action for the High Holy DaysAs we prepare to welcome the High Holy Days of 5786, our trope this year — P’tach Libi, “Open My Heart” — calls us to approach this sacred season with openness, intention, and connection. It is especially meaningful at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, where we open not only our hearts but our doors. We invite our community to participate in the Days of Awe — bring your family, invite guests, and share in this season of reflection and renewal together.
Our Mission and ImpactAs we enter this sacred season, we ask you to open your heart.- Open your heart to compassion, to justice, to belonging.- Open your heart to the enduring strength of the Jewish community.IHC’s mission is to be a vibrant, inclusive Jewish community that embraces tradition while looking forward with hope. A successful appeal ensures that this mission thrives — not just today but for generations to come.P’tach Libi is a reminder for us to stay present to what matters most. The rhythm of the High Holy Days — the music, the messages, the moments of stillness — helps us reset and refocus. It’s a time to feel deeply connected to this community and to the sacred work we do together. We are grateful every day for the opportunity to serve IHC, and especially during this season, we are reminded just how meaningful that calling is.
How You Can HelpPlease open your heart — and give generously. Your support sustains the programs, people, and purpose that make IHC a spiritual home for all of us. Together, with open hearts, we ensure that IHC remains strong, inclusive, and vibrant — for today, for tomorrow, and for all who seek a place to belong.
The themes of the High Holy Days remind us in both easy and challenging ways of our bounty and privilege and our obligation to repair the world not only by sharing our own resources but also by creating a more equitable and just society. The Tzedek Committee invites the IHC family to enter 5786 with a commitment to reduce the food insecurity experienced by 25% of Indianapolis residents.
